Annual Events
Healthy Relationships Fair
February is National Dating Violence Awareness Month. Each year, the June Anderson Center and Power of ONE hosts an annual Healthy Relationships Fair in the Student Union to bring awareness to dating violence. Several on- and off-campus partners join for this event including: MTSU Police, Title IX, Student Healthy Services, Office of Student Conduct, the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center, Campus Rec, and Raider Health Corp. This event is open to all students, faculty, and staff!
Clothesline Project
April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Each year, the Power of One Office sets up The Clothesline Project, which is a visual display of t-shirts with words of hope and healing or violence statistics that often go ignored. There are six different color shirts that are displayed and the color of each shirt represents a different type of violence. The week before the display, the Power of One Office hosts a decorating table in the Student Union for any students to participate in making a shirt! The shirts are always displayed the first week of April.
Walk A Mile In Their Shoes
For Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Power of One Office and the June Anderson Center partner with Fraternity and Sorority Life, Student Programming, and the Interfraternity Council to host the Walk A Mile In Their Shoes event. This event is an international walk to raise awareness in our community about the severity of sexual violence and the resources we have to help. Free t-shirts, free sandwiches, and other swag have been provided in the past! We hope to continue this tradition for the future walks. This event was created based on the International Men’s March – Walk A Mile In Her Shoes.
Color the Commons
The Power of One Office and the June Anderson Center host the Color the Commons event where students come to create chalk artwork with empowering messages or beautiful designs honoring victims of sexual violence for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This event happens in the Student Union Commons!
Block Party & Resource Fair
Welcome back to school event! The Power of One Office partners with the June Anderson Center and MT One Stop to host our annual Block Party and Resource Fair for new and returning students. This event focuses on the importance of Bystander Intervention and connecting students to on- and off-campus resources that could be useful during their time at MTSU. Activities include tie-dying t-shirts, playing classic outdoor and indoor games, “consent” giant jenga, power-based violence trivia, and more! We offer free food/snacks, drinks, and prizes for those that play our trivia!
Pets Against Violence
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Power of One Office and the June Anderson Center partner with local therapy pet organizations to bring therapy dogs to campus while discussing the seriousness of domestic violence, and how violence affects animals. Students get to pet some puppies and learn about domestic violence!
